Day Eleven Of The Twelve Days Of Christmas: Ranking All The New Albums I Listened To In 2023.
Alright, so these are all the new albums I've listened to this year.
There are a few albums I planned on listening to (those being GUTS (Deluxe Edition) by Olivia Rodrigo, Denim And Rhinestones (Deluxe Edition) by Carrie Underwood, Autumn Variations by Ed Sheeran, Autumn Variations (Fan Living Room Sessions) by Ed Sheeran, Autumn Variations (Live Acoustic Edition) by Ed Sheeran, 1989 (Taylor's Version) (Taylor's Version) (Tangerine Edition) by Taylor Swift, We Need Christmas (Extended Edition) by Maddie & Tae and The Show (Encore Edition) by Niall Horan.
Because of that, they'll obviously be omitted from this year and added to next year's roster.
If y'all would like to see what I thought of albums released in 2022, you can watch that here and here
Without further ado, let's get to the main attraction!
#18: Lavender Haze (Remixes) by Taylor Swift.
Point total: 10.
Favorite song: Lavender Haze (Clean Version).
I ain't really got much to say about this.
#17: Three Songs At A Time (Sampler) by Morgan Wallen.
Point total: 11.5.
Favorite song: I Wrote The Book.
Yeah, this thing was important at the time, (I still remember first listening to Last Night in my house and thinking "gosh, that is, I hope that ain't the single" and guess what!? It was!
#16: Spring Break '23 Remixes by Priscilla Block and VAVO.
Point total: 20.
Favorite song: My Bar (VAVO Remix).
Yeah, this was cool and the remixes are pretty sick, not gonna lie.
#15 : Rolling UpThe Welcome Mat (For Good) by Kelsea Ballerini.
Point total: 18.2.
Favorite song: Leave Me Again.
I feel like this extended version more or less ruined my thoughts on the original. Interlude being a full song didn't work and just, I don't know.
#14: The More Chapter by Taylor Swift.
Point total: 21.1.
Favorite song: If This Was A Movie (Taylor's Version).
PR? Yes. Weird? Yes. A bad EP? No. I'm glad she FINALLY released All Of The Girls You Loved Before and the re-records were nice, I'm just sad that If This Was A Movie got dropped from Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and that Safe And Sound and Eyes Open weren't added to either it or RED (Taylor's Version) in some capacity or another. (Maybe even some stupid "Psychical Only" release [like with Hits Different, You're Losing Me and Sweeter Than Fiction (Taylor's Version)] or a "digital only" [like with Glitch and Paris and the remix EPs]. I feel as though they were robbed a well deserved spot on an actual album).
#13: Unlocked by Lauren Alaina.
Point total: 30.9.
Favorite song: Don't Judge A Woman.
This record was highly anticipated by yours truly and it was absolutely incredible! The unexpected but absolutely needed Lainey Wilson duet Thicc As Thieves is my second favorite song (joining the great list of songs I like that rip-off Roy Orbision's Pretty Woman).
#12: Psychopath by Morgan Wade.
Point total: 31.
Favorite song: Psychopath.
As anyone who read my reaction to this album knows, I didn't "love" this album. I'm not saying it's "bad", but it's a Sophomore slump. (It's technically her third full album, if you count Puppets With My Heart [an Indie album released during her time with The Stepbrothers] but we're just counting solo albums here). I feel like the label or whoever is pushing for Mainstream and doing a terrible job at it. (It could even be Morgan, and I'm fine with someone experimenting and playing but Meet Somebody, I hope I never have to hear that song again so long as I'm livin'...
#11: Rolling Up The Welcome Mat by Kelsea Ballerini.
Point total: 40.
Favorite song: Leave Me Again.
Fancy that, will ya? The shorter album outranks the longer album.
#10: Welcome To The Block Party (Deluxe Edition) by Priscilla Block.
Point total: 71.3.
Favorite song: Getting Even.
I remember when this came out too. Getting Even made me cry when I first heard it.
#9: The Devil I Know by Ashley McBryde.
Point total: 76.
Favorite song: tie between Learned To Lie and Single At The Same Time.
This album blew me away. Perfection, as I've come to expect from Ash.
#8: The Show by Niall Horan.
Point total: 110.
Favorite song: You Could Start A Cult.
I absolutely love this album and can't wait to hear the extended, Encore Edition someday soon. This album's only problem is it's way too short (hopefully the Encore Edition will satisfy my cravings).
#7: Real To Me: The Way I Feel (Deluxe Edition) by Callista Clark.
Point total: 129.5.
Favorite song: Brave Girl.
I truly think Callista is one of the brightest stars in Mainstream Country Music, and she surely is to be such a tender age (she's twenty now, but was nineteen when this album came out). She's been on my radar for a couple of years and she's insanely talented in her writing and her vocals.
#6: Speak Now (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift.
Point total: 131.24.
Favorite song:
OG: The Story Of Us (Taylor's Version).
New: Electric Touch (Featuring Fall Out Boy) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault).
I liked this album a WHOLE lot better than I figured, especially after the (stupid) deletion of If This Was A Movie, but I was actually surprised. It was better than I planned (though it might've been propelled to sixth by Vault Tracks alone)...
#5: - (Deluxe Edition) by Ed Sheeran.
Point total: 136.5.
Favorite song: Life Goes On.
This album BROKE me! The videos are incredible and it's the second (but hopefully not last) Ed Sheeran album I own on physical.
#4: One Thing At A Time by Morgan Wallen.
Point total: 150.4.
Favorite song: Single Than She Was.
An album with thirty six songs has space for some flops, which is good because this record has got a collection. The good songs make up for it though. This song and it's accompanying release show livestream helped me keep my sanity on one of the longest road trips of my life.
#3: Faith In The Future (Deluxe Edition) by Louis Tomlinson.
Point total: 180.
Favorite song: Out Of My System.
This is an album that had too many Editions and Versions. There was the Version annouced, the Version released (with a couple more songs), the Target Exclusive Deluxe Edition and this one. Even Louis was confused by it (as per a remark he made on the Track-By-Track interview.
#2: Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) by Taylor Swift.
Point total: 189.7.
Favorite Song: You're On Your Own, Kid or Mastermind.
Midnights is a good album (but not particularly my favorite). I kinda think this was unnecessary though. They should've just released one version.
#1: Midnights (The Late Night Edition) by Taylor Swift.
Point value: 202.3.
Favorite song: You're On Your Own, Kid.
As I said, Midnights is not my favorite Taylor Swift album, but has it's strong moments nonetheless. I do think it's a little annoying that we'll probably never get Paris and Glitch on physical and I'm awful glad that You're Losing Me is on YouTube and such now.
Alright, that is it! I'm very sorry this post is four days late, I just have not had the time to get ANYTHING done lately! See ya when I see ya, Ally. 😎
