Deep Dives And Reactions: GUTS (Clean Version) by Olivia Rodrigo (Full Album Reaction).

Hello and welcome to the first album reaction of 2024! I'm reacting to GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo.
So I've already heard Vampire and bad idea right? and out of what I ain't heard, I'm claiming pretty isn't pretty.
   all-American (Clean Version):
Well, I understand her sentiment here. I feel like lots of people can. Young people, especially women, have such high expectations piled on their head and it can drive you to insanity if you let it. 7/10.
   bad idea right? (Clean Version).
I did a full reaction to this one (find that here) and my thoughts haven't changed. If anything, I love it more. 10/10.
   Vampire (Clean Version):
I didn't love this one at first, but it grew on me. For some reason or another, it reminds me of Audrey Rose from the Disney Descendants franchise. I don't and never did like her (like I could've called her whole villain arc in 2015) but I could definitely see an edit happening of her with lyrics. 10/10.
   Lacy (Clean Version):
What even is this song? I get the meaning, but the production is all over the place. It takes my icks from hope ur ok and driver's license and amplifies them. 4.5/10.
ballad of a homeschooled girl (Clean Version):
Ooh, rocky. The "social sucide" build up, HELP! And after the bridge where it goes all to nothing to everything! Wow! 9.5/10.
   Making The Bed:
Wow, this is one of the most sonically pleasing songs ever! It's like a brain massage! The lyrics are more or less relatable and it may be my favorite. 10/10.
   Logical (Clean Version):
This is kinda Favorite Crime-esque, but not nearly as good. 1/10.
   Get him  back! (Clean Version):
So as it's been unavoidable, I have heard bits and pieces of this song on some YouTube Shorts. Oh my gosh, this SMACKS! "Because everyone knew, that guy was missin' a screw" is my new favorite line from this album and maybe Olivia in general. I went through something similar to this about two years ago and in the thick of it, SOUR was my soundtrack, so I'm thankful for that... 10/10.
A Clean Version of "love is embarrassing" doesn't exist, so we're skipping it and going onto the grudge (Clean Version):
Wow, this is pretty and sad too! The line that says "we both drew blood, but those cuts weren't equal" ties right directly in with Vampire!10/10.
   pretty isn't pretty:
We've arrived to my claim! And this is good! In today's (mostly) toxic beauty standards, everyone feels like this. Why are we stressing if literally everyone struggles? We should just get over it, but that's way easier said than done. This isn't my favorite, but it's close. 9/10.
   Teenage Dream:
And now, the final track of the standard edition! This one strikes me funny, because of the Katy Perry song and also the "I'm over this Teenage Dream" lyric in brutal. Anyway, that makes me curious. Let's listen... The piano is nice, Ah, but the lyrics. This draws right back to the fears of growing up that everyone had (or at least me). Anyway, beautiful. 10/10.

The Hidden/Secret Tracks:

   Obsessed:
I could only find a live video for this one and couldn't hear it very well, but it's very Grunge-influenced. 10/10.
   Scared Of My Guitar:
Found a bootleg for this (I know, probably not advised but if it's not officially released I have to hear it somehow). It's relatable to me as a songwriter. I remember one day I sat down to play and ended up writing a song that I didn't want to write (but I needed to write it and to this day it's one of my finest and most honest compositions)10/10.
   Stranger:
A friend of mine said this sounds like that one song you hear in a cafe and never know the name of it but it drives you crazy trying to find it for years. Oh goodness, this is genius and so relatable! Liv is always relatable though (I don't make the rules). "You're just a Stranger I know everything about" reminds me a lot of the lyric "please don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognise anywhere" from Taylor Swift's New Year's Day. 10/10.
  Girl I've Always Been:
So I first got clickbaited into someone's Teenage Dream remix or something of the like... Who knows? Anyway, I finally found it. WHY DOES THIS SOUND COUNTRY? Like seriously, the vocal styling and the melody and whatever? Liv likes Country music (she went to a freaking Megan Moroney concert and screamed "Hair Salon" with everyone else) so I don't guess it's too unlikely. But it caught me off guard. 10/10.

Conclusion:

That'll be a wrap (finally) for this reaction. It took me three months to start this record and two and a half to actually listen to it. Also, I'm well aware that she released the Secret Tracks and a new song officially last Friday but that'll be a post for another time!
Full album score: 131. My favorite songs have got to be Get Him Back!, Bad Idea Right? and Making The Bed. Well, that'll wrap it up, see ya when I see ya! 😎
