NaBloPoMo Day Twenty: Deep Dives And Reactions: Stand Alone (10th Anniversary Edition by Morgan Wallen).
Alright, so before anyone yells at me for not being a fake Morgan Wallen fan for listening to this, I don't support his ex label's decision to release this record at all. But however, I really like the original Stand Alone so I decided "what the heck?"
(And I'm using Discord's Jockie Music bot, so I don't think it's getting viewed anyway and it's released on Morgan's channel so if anything it's helping his view count).
Going Down:
So this reminds me a lot of "Not Good At Not". I actually enjoyed it, even though it's not as good as anything he's put out since. 8/10.
Scared To Live Without You:
If I didn't know it was Morgan, I wouldn't know it was Morgan. His voice has matured so much over the last few years! Even since If I Know Me to Dangerous and One Thing At A Time! I actually like the song, whoever wrote it knew what they were doing! 10/10.
2 of Us Alone:
Alright, so it sounds promising already. Again, I don't think I'd know it was Morgan if I didn't know. This is a nice little song, not anything to stop the world from spinning though. 5/10.
Got It Made:
Again, I don't think I would know this was Morgan if I didn't know. I don't mind this song, it may actually be the best song on here. I understand why Morgan said he didn't want these to see the light of day, because they're not great, but I'm glad they did release because it's very cool to hear where he started. I've always said that music is 50% talent and 50% hard work and that man has put fourth the effort to get where he is today! 8/10.
What's Your Story:
Oh man, I got triggered by the Bro-Country-esque lyrics in the first few lines, but after hearing the rest, apparently this song is anti-Bro-Country, which I can freaking get behind! 10/10.
Spin You Around:
Arguably the song that started it all! I really don't know if we'd know the name Morgan Wallen if not for this song! I know he was on The Voice, but this song went viral and whatever. I can't wait to hear the rerecording soon! I think he sounds the most like the Morgan we know on this song, I mean by the vibes and the vocals too! 7/10.
Afterglow:
Alrighty, here we go with the third song I've heard with this title... It's actually not that bad. I've heard worse songs, but I've heard better. 5/10.
Heaven Can Take a Backseat:
Alright, so this ain't bad, I'm liking the fact it has steel guitar on it, which is a rare occurrence in 21st century Country music. He sounds so different on these old songs, it's almost as if it's a Morgan Cole Wallen from an alternative universe... My headset died halfway through that song, so I'll have to finish this later... 8/10.
Sleep When We're Dead:
Alright, I'm back. I believe I've already heard this one and I think I accused it of being a stupid song. (I was right, this is one heck of a stupid song). Either way, it's kinda a bop. I know more than the whole money thing Morgan must feel stupid to have this stuff come to light. It's not bad, but it's not nearly as good as the stuff he has creative control over! 4/10.
Stand Alone:
Another song on this album that doesn't even sound like Morgan! Like holy moly, his voice has changed so much! 3/10.
Man Of The South:
Ooh this is rocky, I like it! I love Country music, but Southern Rock is my other favorite thing! 2/10.
Yin Yang Girl:
Now I think this is the second most popular song from the original album, second to Spin You Around. I don't remember if I ever heard this or not, but goodness, this is a strange song... 1/10.
Bonfire Jam:
Okay, this is Bro Country if it was about ten times less cringe. Again, not bad. 6/10.
